Age based probems and tips

Aptitude solving also comprises of few problems based on age calculation, they are normal but the sentences used there makes it look as if it is complex.

Age
The main parts of Age based problems are 
  • Present age
  • Years ago age
  • Hence years age
We calculate age based problems using simple mathematic equations.
Few important formulae in making equations:
  1. If current age is 'x',then 'n' times current age is 'x*n'.
  2. If current age is 'x',then age 'n' years later='x+n'.
  3. Ages in ratio a:b will be 'a*x' and 'b*x' respectively.
  4. If current age is 'x',then age 'n' years before='x-n'.
  5. If current age is 'x',then 1/n of age is x/n.

Example 1:
John's father said,"I was as old as you are now when you were born"
now son's age is 19, what is the age of John's father after 6 years.
solution:
years ago age(when john was born): f=19 ,j=0
present age: f=x (19+19),j=19
hence age: (after 6 years): 38+6=44 years

Example 2:
Raju's age after 15 years will be 5 times his age 5 years back, what is his present age?

solution:
Assumptions:(current age c)(future age:f=c+15)(past age:p=c-5)
f=5*p
(c+15)=5*(c-5)
c+15=5c-25
40=4c
c=10
hence current age is 10 years.

    Example 3:
    A's age : B's age = 5:2, after 5 years, the ratio becomes 35:23, find A's present age.
    Solution:
     Present ages:          5       2                     difference=3
     Ages after 5 years: 35     23           difference=12

    multiply other's difference to this,
    Present ages:                  60x       24x
    Ages after 5 years:         105x     69x
    105x-60x=69x-24x=45x which is equal to 5 years
    x=5/45 =1/9 years.
    Age of A= 60(1/9) = 6.66
